How to make CBD hash?

What is hash?

Hashish is an agglomeration of resin glands found on cannabis buds. These resinous glands called trichomes concentrate most of the active elements of cannabis such as cannabidiol. This is why hash is a cannabis concentrate.

Trichomes

These trichomes are tiny little growths barely visible to the naked eye that dot cannabis flowers. They are used by the plant to protect the seed from heat, light but also from insects that would seek to reach its offspring to feast on them.

It is this part of the plant, once separated from the flower and agglomerated, that forms the hash.

Making the hash

To make hash there are many techniques, we will see the main ones here. Whatever happens the principle remains the same; separate the flower from its trichomes and then bring them together to form a block of hashish.

The sieve

The most common technique is that of the sieve, it is this technique that is used in Morocco to make their hashish, so you could say that it has been approved for several centuries by professionals in the sector.

To do this, simply use a mesh fabric whose holes are barely larger than the trichomes in order to sift the latter while retaining the plant matter.

You can buy bags specially designed for this in the grow shop, which will allow you to have the ideal mesh size.

Once you have the right fabric, just stretch it over a bowl and then lay out your crumbled grass on top before covering it with a plastic bag and then holding it in place with string or tape.

To finish, tap on it for about 5 minutes with wooden spoons, shaking the bowl from time to time to loosen the trichomes and allow them to cross the fabric towards the bottom of the bowl.

Finally disassemble everything and collect the powder that has settled in the bowl, then press and mix it to form an agglomerated ball of hash.

The ice-o-lator

This second technique is more recent and was popularized by Dutch coffee shops anxious to valorize the crop residues resulting from the work of manicuring cannabis buds.

This is based on two physical and chemical principles; the fact that the trichomes become more brittle under the effect of the cold and the fact that these sink when immersed in water.

To make ice-o-lator you need to have a specialized filter bag that you can find in grow shops and then place it in a bucket. Then fill it with water and ice and add your crumbled grass or your manicure residue (previously frozen).

You then have to mix everything intensely with a drill and a concrete mixer, for example.

Under the effect of the cold, the trichomes will detach and flow through the filtration bag.

You must then let everything rest so that the trichomes sink to the bottom of the bucket and then subtly remove the water or pass it through a special collection bag so as to recover the trichomes and then let them dry.

You can then clump it all together to form a hash dumpling.
