How is Moroccan hashish made?

Moroccan hashish is particularly famous throughout the world. Thanks, for example, to the famous Ketama region, which has made hash production a real specialty. It is in Morocco a traditional production that has been practiced for centuries and the manufacturing technique is therefore particularly proven. This is what leads us to ask ourselves this question in this article: how is Moroccan hashish made?

What is hashish?

Hash is a by-product of cannabis that allows you to integrate its active ingredients. It comes in the form of a bar, a pellet or a plate of light brown to dark brown color. It has the advantage of being more compact and therefore easier to transport than herbal cannabis.

All hash is made from the trichomes of cannabis. Trichomes are small resinous growths present on the female flowers of cannabis and in lesser quantity on the small leaves of the plant. It is these resinous glands that contain most of the psychoactive principles called cannabinoids, which is why they are used to make a trichome concentrate called hash.

How is Moroccan hash made?

As mentioned above, the principle of making hash is to separate the cannabis plant from its trichomes. There are several methods to carry out this separation process but here we will see how Moroccan producers have been smoking it for centuries.

The basic principle of the Moroccan technique for making hash is to use a sieve with meshes slightly wider than the size of the trichome in order to filter them without letting the vegetable matter pass.

To do this, we must impose a significant physical constraint on the cannabis so that the trichomes detach from the plant and that they pass through the mesh.

To do this, Moroccan producers use large bowls on which are placed the mesh fabrics and then the cannabis covered with trichomes. Everything is covered with a plastic bag and then beaten violently with chopsticks so that the trichomes detach from the plant and pass through the sieve.

Then all you have to do is collect the trichomes from the bottom of the bowl and pass them through a hydraulic press using a mold to make a nice hash pad. Moroccan manufacturers often take advantage of this step to put a stamp on the plate so as to differentiate its origin, destination or quality.

Conclusion

Now you know the traditional manufacturing technique of Moroccan hash. This technique may seem very simple to perform but in reality it often takes several tries to obtain a result worthy of the best Moroccan hashes.
